April Update

By Cillian & Max

Some of our beanstalks have grown really tall. We have been measuring them and recording the different heights. Sadly, some of them snapped when we repotted them into bigger pots and some of them didn’t grow at all! We have learnt that, although plants need water, too much water will cause them to drown. We also know that healthy plants need space to grow.

In maths we have been learning about money. We began by looking at the different values of the coins and notes but then we were very interested in why people say ‘heads or tails’ when they flip a coin. We explored some different coins and noticed that the Queen’s head is on them all but the picture of her is not always the same.  We thought it was funny that the coins used to have the King’s head on instead. Since then some of us have been learning to add the values together and others have been using a counting-on strategy to find change. We have loved using this interactive website: Coins Games

We have been learning to introduce ourselves in French by saying, “Bonjour, je m’appelle…”. And we can also count to 12.

March Update

By Ayaan, Gene & Rory

In P6 we have started a new topic, Space, and we have been researching planets.

In writing we have been writing and performing our own Humpty Dumpty scripts. We have been reading the script versions of Roald Dahl stories to allow us to see examples of how this task should be done.

In maths we have been doing data handling and making graphs. We visited all of the classes to collect information for our different surveys, before using the data to create different styles of graph.

For World Book Day we dressed up as our favourite book characters and we read books to the Nursery children.

We also had our first Gaelic football taster lesson.

Last week P7P and the school celebrated Scots week. P1 to 7 children all read poems in our Scottish Assembly.

This week we had a man from Edinburgh Rugby come in to talk to us in assembly about the Champions Cup. He even brought in the trophy!
