Term 4 class update

We have started our new topic and we are learning about Energy. We have been learning about all the different types of energy; wind, solar, hydro, electric, petrol, kinetic, nuclear, chemical, heat, muscular, and potential energy. We are learning how energy changes from one kind to another. We will also be finding out how energy is created and we are hoping to try making some wind turbines in class.

In our Maths work we are learning about money. We are learning to add up coins, working out change and show different ways to make small sums of money. We have a shop set up in the class and we are using it to help us give the right change.

All P4’s are taking part in national assessments this month. We have to do 3 tests – Numeracy, Reading and Writing. All P4 children in Scotland are taking the same test and the results will help us know how we are getting on compared to other schools.

Just a reminder about Accelerated Reader. We would like children to be completing a book every couple of weeks please.

Gorgie Farm part 2

Today our afternoon class got the chance to visit Gorgie Farm to help support their learning about new life and what animals need to grow and thrive. The children had a fantastic time interacting with the smaller farm inhabitants during our cuddle corner session. They got to hold and stroke a snake, tortoise, guinea pig, bearded dragon and more. Afterwards they explored the farm, fed the cows, and had fun in the play park before heading back to nursery.

Gorgie Farm Part 1

Our morning nursery class had a animaltastic day at Gorgie Farm this week. As part of our visit we were learning about what animals need to grow and observing the difference between baby and adult animals. During our visit the children enjoyed interacting with different animals, especially the sheep. They got to feed the sheep and meet the newborn lambs before enjoying a sheepfilled story in the sunshine.

We’re going on a egg hunt…

This week in nursery we have been learning lots about spring time and Easter. We have searched for signs of spring, talked about who celebrates Easter and why it is a special day, made Easter bonnets and painted eggs. To finish our busy week we took part in an egg hunt out in the forest.

The children were excellent explorers and helped each other to gather all the eggs. They identified the numbers on the eggs, put them into numerical order and also sorted them by colour. Great searching everyone!

The Gruffalo in Scots

P5 delighted us all with a fabulous performance of the ‘Gruffalo in Scots’ – a combination of group and solo dances, singing and thoroughly entertaining drama! Well done to everyone for all your hard work designing the backdrop and masks, learning lines, creating dances and singing so well. A grrrreat job!

Pupils from p5 and p6R were delighted to show off their dances moves last week in the Queen’s Hall. For many, it was their first public performance and they shone with their enthusiasm, energy and creativity!

P5 performed their ‘Tree Dance’ from their recent production of ‘the Gruffalo in Scots’ and P6 rocked the stage with the ‘Bear Necessities’! The pupils choreographed their own group moves during dance lessons in school and enjoyed the challenges of interpreting the music, giving thought to levels, space and direction and learning how to use lifts and flight confidently and safely.

Well done to everyone who took part – it was thoroughly entertaining!
