This week we have been learning about William Wallace. We have made some amazing posters showing the facts we have learnt about his life.

In P6 we have started a new topic, Space, and we have been researching planets.
In writing we have been writing and performing our own Humpty Dumpty scripts. We have been reading the script versions of Roald Dahl stories to allow us to see examples of how this task should be done.
In maths we have been doing data handling and making graphs. We visited all of the classes to collect information for our different surveys, before using the data to create different styles of graph.
For World Book Day we dressed up as our favourite book characters and we read books to the Nursery children.
We also had our first Gaelic football taster lesson.

Last week P7P and the school celebrated Scots week. P1 to 7 children all read poems in our Scottish Assembly.
This week we had a man from Edinburgh Rugby come in to talk to us in assembly about the Champions Cup. He even brought in the trophy!

Thursday was World Book Day. Primary 7 and 1 had a breakfast together with their buddies, which was kindly provided by Tesco. Thanks Tesco!

This month P7 have been writing stories for the BBC Radio 500 words competition. All of our stories are very exciting! The competition deadline is the 8th March 2019 at 7pm. We have been working very hard on them and hope to win a prize!
In art we have designed a book token for a competition for next year’s World Book Day on the 5th March 2020.
In JASS we are completing our ‘My Interests’ page for our Silver Award. We have to complete 12 hours of doing a hobby.
For art, we brought in milk bottles and we cut the top off so it looked like an elephant. Then we covered them with papier-mâché (tissue and PVA glue).
In front of P5M, we performed our ‘Gruffalo in Scots’ play in the hall and they had poem to sing and perform for us. We put on a very good show.
For topic in our class, we are learning about Guru Nanak and the 5Ks we made posters about the 5Ks.
We have been learning about amounts of time like 24 hours and 48 hours. It was a lot of fun. We used stopwatches out in the playground and timed how long it took us to complete tasks, such as how fast you can say the alphabet. We have also been measuring one minute and how many star jumps you can do in that time.
We learned how to use some new mathematical symbols – the greater than crocodile and less than crocodile with pipe cleaners.

We are growing potatoes and broad beans as part of our Living and Growing topic. We found out that they only need water and sun. We also discovered that they do not need mud to grow.

We have been making things ‘GO’, such as cars, as part of our Forces topic. We looked at different ways of making things move – blowing through straws and using magnets – and we tried to discover the things in our classroom that would sink or float.
We have also been learning about static electricity. We rubbed the balloons on our heads and we put it on paper to make it dance.

It has been a very busy few weeks for us! We started our Living and Growing topic by planting some broad beans to watch them grow. We are trying to work out what a plant needs in order to be healthy. We have planted them in soil, given them water and put in them in a sunny spot in the classroom. We then learnt a song about growing plants to help us remember the key things.
We have also planted potatoes as part of the RHET Super Sonic Spud Project. We were very lucky to have a visitor from the farming world come to visit us and tell us all about planting potatoes on a large scale.

On Thursday 7th March, we dressed up as our favourite character to celebrate World Book Day. There were lots of book related activities throughout the day. We visited the library to “Ditch and Switch” our books – we all got to take a home a pre-loved book and we voted for our favourite authors and books. The best part of the day was the breakfast where we ‘shared a story’! Tesco had kindly donated lots of different food for us to have for breakfast – we could choose from cereal, fruit or toast with different toppings – whilst we read.
