We are growing potatoes and broad beans as part of our Living and Growing topic. We found out that they only need water and sun. We also discovered that they do not need mud to grow.

We have been making things ‘GO’, such as cars, as part of our Forces topic. We looked at different ways of making things move – blowing through straws and using magnets – and we tried to discover the things in our classroom that would sink or float.
We have also been learning about static electricity. We rubbed the balloons on our heads and we put it on paper to make it dance.

It has been a very busy few weeks for us! We started our Living and Growing topic by planting some broad beans to watch them grow. We are trying to work out what a plant needs in order to be healthy. We have planted them in soil, given them water and put in them in a sunny spot in the classroom. We then learnt a song about growing plants to help us remember the key things.
We have also planted potatoes as part of the RHET Super Sonic Spud Project. We were very lucky to have a visitor from the farming world come to visit us and tell us all about planting potatoes on a large scale.

On Thursday 7th March, we dressed up as our favourite character to celebrate World Book Day. There were lots of book related activities throughout the day. We visited the library to “Ditch and Switch” our books – we all got to take a home a pre-loved book and we voted for our favourite authors and books. The best part of the day was the breakfast where we ‘shared a story’! Tesco had kindly donated lots of different food for us to have for breakfast – we could choose from cereal, fruit or toast with different toppings – whilst we read.

We are all learning about position. To learn about position we first looked at pictures and talked about where the fox was positioned – like ‘in the bush’ or ‘next to the house’. We drew some pictures of our own to show different positions.

We then used the iPad to make a book of different positional words and most of us climbed onto the tables to show ‘on top’!

We have been learning about multiplication. We are learning how to multiply using rows and columns. These are called arrays. Mr Carson showed us this with green dots on the board.
In maths, this week, we learned about measurement in cm, km and mm.
In literacy, we learned about poems and we wrote our own poem about the school using Scots language.
In religious and moral education (R.M.E) we are learning about Sikhism.
