This week we have been working on our display boards for a WW2 ‘sharing our learning’ event. We have made our own activities for the parents to do, such as true or false, match the family members and missing vowel games, which will help us provide information. P7P have also created dances to music of the time with our own and the other P7 class which have been recorded.

During PE we have been learning Scottish country dancing like the Gay Gordon’s, Strip the Willow and the Dashing White Sargent. Our focus is rhythm & timing, alongside respect & tolerance as we have to work with our partners.

We are focusing on a new topic – Scottish History. We have split into groups to learn about different aspects of the topic such as inventions, Edinburgh, fashion and music. We will then present back to each other on the research we have completed.

In maths we are learning how to multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000.

The whole class is reading Peter Pan and we have words to match up with meanings and find in the book. In writing we are learning about different forms of poetry, like Cinquains and acrostics, and giving them a Scottish twist.

Our topic this term is Scots language. We have done a card game and a board game quiz on the interactive board.

In maths we have been learning about measurements with a game called ‘guess my volume’ and ‘guess my length’. We also measured water.

After Christmas we welcomed our new teacher for P5M. She is called Mrs Scott.

In topic we are learning about Scottish history and we looked at some old Scottish comics that we brought in from home.

  • Robin brought the Oor Wullie 2017;
  • Alfie brought The Broons’ Burns Night;
  • Robbie brought an Oor Wullie reprint; and finally
  • Isabella brought a book of Scottish nursery rhymes

We are using these texts to explore Scots culture and language.

We have been learning about the Jacobites. We have been put into clans so we can pretend to be Jacobites and then that’s how we are going to learn. In art, we learned how to draw tartan to represent out clans. To mix with that we are doing Scottish writing, which is fun but a bit hard at the same time because the language is different.

We have been  learning about the Jacobites. We have designed posters to share our research with our classmates and we voted for our favourite. We have been drawing and painting with Mrs Denvir and she asked us to use lots of colours for the sky. We also made toy swords!

When we came back after Christmas we met our new teacher, Miss White. She is very nice. We wrote her letters and posted them into our very own postbox before the break. She replied to each of us individually.

In maths we have been learning how to read a calendar, how many days are in each month and that there are 365 days in a year. P3 are happy to be back.

We have been learning to give directions as part of our mathematics topic, using Bee-Bots and iPads. It was tricky to think lots of steps ahead to give the Bee-Bot instructions. Some of us decided it was easiest to programme one instruction at a time so we could ‘debug’ and correct our mistakes quickly. This ties our maths learning to technology and helps us to build computational thinking skills.
