Christmas Party!
After a week of planning and preparation, today we had our Christmas party. The children had fun dancing to their favourite songs and playing party games in the gym hall, taking part in Christmas activities and crafts in the nursery and eating our party snack all together as a class.
The children did a fantastic job sharing some songs and our Christmas story “Dear Santa” by Rod Campbell with their families. We were even lucky enough to have a special visit from Santa who gave out some well deserved presents to all. Happy holidays everyone! See you all in the new year!
Party Planning and Preparation
In preparation for our Christmas party on Friday, the children discussed the music, decorations, games and food they would like to have. We created a shopping list together and took a trip to our local supermarket to buy everything we needed. The children helped to locate the items, check the price, check off items from our list, carry the baskets, scan the items and pay for our shopping. We had a great time learning more about money and shopping while out in our local community.
Lights, Camel, Action!
This week our infant classes have been performing their version of the Nativity story. All of the children worked incredibly hard to memorise lines, cues, dance routines and song lyrics. When the music cut out during our dress rehearsal to the school, our children demonstrated true perseverance (a Roseburn Value) and continued singing without music. They have completely blown us away with their enthusiasm and willingness to accept all of the challenges we have thrown at them. Well done – you’ve done yourselves proud!
The children were delighted to see so many of their adults in the audience, clapping and smiling, after enjoying a warm welcome to our school with an offer of a hot drink and mince pies served by none other than Mrs Borrowman. What a lovely atmosphere to end this term!
Forces and Frost
Today we took a trip to the newly built playground in Roseburn Park. The children had a fantastic time exploring the new space, swinging on the swings, climbing up and down the climbing frames, and crawling around in the tunnel. As they played the children were confidently identifying the push and pull forces they encountered linking to the learning we have been doing at nursery.
The children were also fascinated by the frosty weather. They took time to inspect the frosty grass, frozen sand and puddles and the small icicles dripping from the different surfaces.
Scottish Ballet Prize!
Liyanna was delighted to attend Scottish Ballet’s production of Cinderella in the Festival Theatre – a prize for having her artwork selected to feature in their programme. It was a fabulous show, with amazing dancing, stunning scenery and beautiful costumes! Liyanna loved the pesky ugly sisters and their ‘terrible‘ dancing at the ball! Thank you to Scottish Ballet for a wonderful evening!
Christmas Fair!
The children have been busy this week planning for our stall at the Christmas fair. They decided to make sparkly Christmas tree decorations and delicious gingerbread men!

Come along to the school between 1-2pm on Friday 7th December to purchase some of our brilliant creations! We look forward to seeing you there!
December Learning Focus: Christmas, Money & Forces
P5M Update
By: Alfie & Isabella
We have been learning about the Rainforest through making our own books. We have been researching lots of different information to help make our books. This week, we are focusing on the tribes that live there. It is very interesting.
In Maths, we have been learning about money as part of our Financial Education Week. We have been creating games and solving different problems. We used a number line strategy to help us.
P1 Update
This has been Primary 1’s last week in the hall and we are really excited about moving back into our classroom. We have been sneaking quick peeks at the lovely clouds floating from the ceiling.
We are nearly finished our initial sounds and we have been looking at ‘q’. We realised that this cannot work on its own and always needs its friend ‘u’ to make its sound. We have especially enjoyed exploring this sound through the book ‘Quick Quack Quentin’.

We have been busy making beautiful gift bags and tags to sell at the Christmas Fair and we look forward to seeing you there next week!
