Garden Clear-up

The nursery children, parents and staff have been busy in the garden this week. They have helped by digging, sweeping, shovelling, weeding and trimming. All the leaves and debris left from the winter have been cleared and our garden is looking much tidier and ready for play!

We want to say another HUGE thank you to those who have helped to bring our garden back to life! We couldn’t have done it without your help!

National Galleries Art Competition 2018

3DCEF0DD-5D47-491A-B563-DD95090C44C0We are thrilled to share the news that Ethan, p3, has received a ‘Special Merit’ for his delightful image of a hungry and rather mischievous cat! Ethan’s work was created with black felt pen and a wash of water. He has been invited to attend a  prizegiving ceremony at the Modern Art Gallery next month, where his work will be exhibited from May 28-Sept 15.

Congratulations Ethan – there were over 8000 entries so this is an amazing achievement!

All about babies

We have been lucky to have two tiny visitors in the nursery this week! We have been joined by two of our families to help us learn about how to look after a baby. The children were all full of questions for our baby visitors and we all learned lots thanks to the knowledge shared by their siblings (and parents). To thank our visitors for coming in we sang them their favourite nursery rhymes.

Term 4 class update

We have started our new topic and we are learning about Energy. We have been learning about all the different types of energy; wind, solar, hydro, electric, petrol, kinetic, nuclear, chemical, heat, muscular, and potential energy. We are learning how energy changes from one kind to another. We will also be finding out how energy is created and we are hoping to try making some wind turbines in class.

In our Maths work we are learning about money. We are learning to add up coins, working out change and show different ways to make small sums of money. We have a shop set up in the class and we are using it to help us give the right change.

All P4’s are taking part in national assessments this month. We have to do 3 tests – Numeracy, Reading and Writing. All P4 children in Scotland are taking the same test and the results will help us know how we are getting on compared to other schools.

Just a reminder about Accelerated Reader. We would like children to be completing a book every couple of weeks please.

Gorgie Farm part 2

Today our afternoon class got the chance to visit Gorgie Farm to help support their learning about new life and what animals need to grow and thrive. The children had a fantastic time interacting with the smaller farm inhabitants during our cuddle corner session. They got to hold and stroke a snake, tortoise, guinea pig, bearded dragon and more. Afterwards they explored the farm, fed the cows, and had fun in the play park before heading back to nursery.

Gorgie Farm Part 1

Our morning nursery class had a animaltastic day at Gorgie Farm this week. As part of our visit we were learning about what animals need to grow and observing the difference between baby and adult animals. During our visit the children enjoyed interacting with different animals, especially the sheep. They got to feed the sheep and meet the newborn lambs before enjoying a sheepfilled story in the sunshine.
