Good morning P6D. It has been great to see your hard work over the past week, keep it up! Wishing you a lovely Easter and look forward to being in touch after the holidays. I have posted a video on twitter saying hello.
Keep healthy, stay safe and be kind to yourself and others.
Good morning primary 5, we’ve made it through 2 weeks of learning at home already and I am so proud of all the hard work both you and your new teachers have been doing. It’s certainly a challenge but one you are all getting used to, I really miss teaching you all & thought it would be nice to share some of your achievements for everyone to see.
I hope you all have a wonderful Easter break that you all deserve, please remember to email admin@roseburn.edin.sch.uk or tweet any of pictures of your work for your teachers to see and share. (please scroll down to see some from the past two weeks).
Here is a Friday video from our favourite ‘Kid President’ to remind you all that your AWESOME!

Mayura has been working very hard at our John Muir project, she has created a power point presentation that we can send with our application. Please click on the title below to view her fantastic work.
Sam has been practising his presenting skills and helped to create this super video for Destiny Kids online. Before we left school we started to learn about Christianity and why Christians celebrate at Easter…keep your eyes peeled for the Easter special episode & well done Sam.
James took part in the Lego challenge this week to create a penguin. Not only did he manage this no problem, he made two & received a reply from the official Lego twitter page – AWESOME!
James also impressed us teachers by thinking outside the box and recreating one of our E.R.I.C drawings using props around his house, can you spot the similarities?
Molly has drawn a lovely sketch of a bunch of flowers, using different types of shading and a mixture of 3D and 2D shapes to create this lovely picture. Well done Molly, Mrs Denvir will be very proud.
Aarush has created this very realistic space buggy from lego. It reminded Mrs Scott of a BBC video where a presenter got the chance to test drive some space buggys on earth and they look very similar. Great work Aarush!
Well done – you have made it to the end of term and will officially be on holiday very soon! I hope you are looking forward to a well-earned rest!
I am so impressed at how many of you have entered the Sum Dog competition! Some of you have even got up bright and early this morning to try to get to the top of the leader board! The competition finishes at 11am today so look out for the results!
Please do refer to the P4 Home Learning Week 2 Overview which I posted on Monday for intended learning and suggested activities that you can complete today if you’ve already spent enough time on SumDog!
I hope you all have a lovely Easter holiday. It’s definitely going to be a little different from usual but I’m looking forward to my daily exercise in the sunshine (hopefully), reading my book and having some time to relax – I hope you all are too!
Awaiting the results of the P6 Sumdog Challenge, you still have some time to answer a few more questions. Here are the answers to the measurement questions that were set this week. I saw great examples of practical measuring. The length and circumference of different parts of the body, measuring ingredients for cooking and baking, the perimeter of various items in the home and lots of scale drawings. I hope you are being accurate…
Some parents were asking how to tell whether the writing their children were doing had enough detail for the stage they were at; if they were on track; or how would they know what to suggest to help them improve their work. This assessment tool was created by the staff and is used to help assess learning at second level. Generally the first column would be expected at P5, the second at P6 and the third P7. The final column in black is the benchmark for achieving second level. Hope this helps. – Miss Gardner
This week we have been asking you to practice your understanding of place value for 5 & 6 digit numbers, including writing and partitioning these numbers.
Today I would like you to practice your addition and subtraction skills using these skills. The video below will help remind you of how to add by carrying over into the next column:
Practice your additionwith this task:
This video will also help remind you of how to subtract with exchanging:
Then try this task:

I hope you all have finished reading ReallyWeirdRemovals.com and enjoyed the ending. Talk with someone at home about what you thought of the ending, and of any changes to the characters that happened throughout the book.
Thursday is an ERIC day, so I have attached an ERIC task for you to try below:
Can you believe it’s almost the Easter holidays? I hope some of you have decided to enter the egg decorating competition on Twitter – I’m looking forward to seeing your entries!
I am super impressed at how many of you entered the SumDog competition yesterday! This ends on Friday morning and things are very close at the top of the leader board! Remember, accurate answers are key so take your time and use your whiteboard to help you do any working out!
Here are some intended learning and activities for literacy and numeracy to keep those brains ticking today!
Literacy
Today, let’s create a text of your choice. So far this year, we have focussed on different genres including play scripts, imaginative stories, poems and fact files. You may choose to create one of these or something different, like a letter to a relative or a friend. Before writing, think carefully about what your text will need to be successful, for example, a poem needs to have short lines and may include similes!
If you would like some inspiration, visit Pobble 365 online and have a look at the wonderful pictures to inspire you.
Numeracy
Today, let’s continue to work on subtraction. You can choose which strategy is best for you – pictures of strategies are available on Tuesday’s blog post.
Today, use your dice or a random number generator to create either 3 digit or 2 digit numbers, depending on how confident you feel. For example, if you roll a 6 and a 4 you can make 64 and then if you roll a 2 and a 9 you can make 29. Then subtract the smallest number from the biggest number using your preferred strategy.
You can choose to do this or to continue the SumDog challenge – you may wish to do a little bit of both!
I hope you are all keeping healthy, staying safe and being kind to yourselves and others.
By now, you should have nearly completed your autobiography. This would be a good time to read over them to ensure you have included capital letters, the correct punctuation, paragraphs and to ensure that it all make senses. I saw some of them before school closed and was very impressed with the amount of detail you were putting into them. I loved seeing the photos you brought in too – how innocent you looked!
Please make sure you share your hard work with your family. Perhaps you could quiz them on a section to test their understanding? I would love to see an excerpt (a short passage) which you can share with me via the admin e-mail or twitter.
Remember to keep your autobiographies. Who knows, this could be you one day? What would your title be?
