Tuesday 31st March

Good morning P4 and a very happy Tuesday to you all! Tuesday’s are our art and PE day – maybe you’ll get creative today or join in PE with Joe Wicks! Here are your intended learning and activities for today. Remember there are many other ways you can be learning and if you choose to measure different amounts by trying a new recipe instead of doing a textbook page then that is okay! This is still learning and you must do what works best for everyone at home!

Maths

We are now going to move on to using different strategies to  subtract numbers. There is a lot of different vocabulary for subtraction including take away, minus and find the difference.

In school, we have learned how to use a number line to subtract 2 digit numbers. Some children are able to use a number line to subtract 3 digit numbers. I have attached a photo of how to use a number line to subtract numbers.

Some children moved on to using column subtraction or chimney sums as they quite like to call them so I have attached a picture of this strategy too. Please do not worry if your child does not recognise this strategy – please encourage them to use the number line instead!

Subtraction strategies

Your task today is to try page 11 in your textbook. Please use either a number line or a chimney sum as appropriate to answer the questions. If this is a little too tricky, I have attached a 2 digit subtraction worksheet instead. If you are up for a challenge, try page 15 in your textbook.

Literacy

Today, I’d like you to focus on responding to different types of questions to show your understanding of a text. Please choose one of the reading comprehension activities that are inside your home learning packs.

Remember to read the text carefully and continue to look back at the text to ensure your answers are accurate.

To be successful you need to ensure your answers are correct, your answers are in sentences and you have given reasons where appropriate.

Take care, try your best and know that I am missing you all very much.

Miss Prentice

P2/3 Art and Design 31.3.20

In Art  and Design we are learning to explore colour and pattern.

As we are approaching Easter, it’s time to design some eggs!
1. Practise drawing some egg shapes lightly in pencil.
2. When you are happy with your egg shapes, turn your paper over and fill it with 6-8 eggs!
3. Choose to draw different patterns either IN the eggs or OUTSIDE the eggs! A dark felt pen works best for this.
4. Colour the patterns with hot or cold colours, using pens, pencils, pastels or paints.

Please share your creations on Twitter, we’d love to see them!

Tuesday 31 March – P3

Good morning P3!  I was outside in my garden yesterday and that gave me an idea of what I could use for this week’s spelling challenge.  Have a look at these mild, spicy and hot words and see if you can work out what they are.  I will post the answers tomorrow 🙂

I’ve also uploaded the mental maths grid if you would like to have a go at doing some of the activities on it.

Miss Fraser 🙂

P4/5 Art and Design 31.3.20

In Art  and Design we are learning to explore tone and proportion in observational drawing.

We have learning about inventions through the ages – look for a modern day object in your house and do a detailed pencil drawing looking carefully at shape and proportion. Use your pencil with different amounts of pressure to add tone

Try a different item from last week – a bicycle, a kettle, a microwave, a toaster, a mobile phone, a laptop….check with an adult before drawing these! Perhaps you could draw a waterproof jacket – a modern version of the ‘Mackintosh’!

Please share your work on Twitter! We’d love to see it!

In Art  and Design we are learning to create  still life images.
We have been looking at the work of Samuel Peploe – you could google this to see more of his work.

Set up your own still life scene using fruit or vegetables ( tins or bottles would also do ). You could place the objects on a tea towel or piece of fabric. Draw what you see. *Top tip – draw the fruit first, then place the bowl or plate around the fruit.

Think about how you could add colour – pencil, felt pen, paint, chalk, collage? ( Old magazines are great for finding colours and patterns ).

Why not share your completed work on Twitter? It would be lovely to see what you have created!

P4
In Art and Design we are learning to use colour and shape effectively.

To link in with your learning about different climates, create a picture using the ideas in the one below.

  1. Draw an animal from your chosen climatic zone – polar, cold, temperate, dry, tropical – it does not have to be in the middle of the page – think about composition!
  2. Fill the background with gentle wavy lines to suggest water, ground, hills, skies…..
  3. Fill the background with hot or cold colours to match your zone – use any media you have available – pens, coloured pencils, pastels, paints….or a mixture!
  4. You can colour your animal too!
  5. Why not share your image on Twitter? We’d love to see it!

P6 Art and Design 31.3.20

In Art  and Design we are learning to show ‘mood’ in our figure drawing.

Last week your task was to capture some family members on paper. This week you should try a self portrait! It could be your face, your upper body or your whole body.

Use a mirror to help you or take a photo and work from that. Sketch lightly in pencil first then press harder and add detail when you are happy with the shape.

What mood does the body shape suggest? Relaxed? Tired? Inspired?

Use your pencil with different amounts of pressure to add TONE to your work.

Please feel free to share your work on Twitter, it would be great to see the results!
