This week we have been supporting anti-bullying week in the nursery, we have introduced our “kindness tree” to our children, the tree that can hear and see all kindness that we show to each other. All kindness acts and thoughts have been displayed throughout the week on the tree. Well done to our garden team that planted the tree with Mrs McNally.
We have also enjoyed World Nursery Rhyme week with lots of fun activities to colour, cut out and follow dots and lines using our fine motor skills and pencil control.
We had a birthday this week and read out rhymes that are special to us, “Hey Diddle Diddle” was a favourite and “Hairy Maclary” books got lots of laughs. Measuring, role play and mixing paint colours were also enjoyed by focus groups in the nursery this week.

Last week the Nursery were discussing Article 3 and Article 17, answering questions and making thank you cards to take home for those we love and protect us from harm. Stories t included “For Every Child” a beautifully illustrated book which explains children’s rights through words and pictures. We also read “Guess How Much I Love You” and extended the story to a drama session emulating the words through our body language.
Later in the week we were dancing through drama. “Fireworks dancing” with coloured scarves, moving our bodies and learning new wow words as we moved to the lights. The children listened to the story of Bonfire Night and were learning all about Guy Fawkes and his gun powder plans. Some interesting comments “did he blow up the white house” .We discussed safety with fireworks and focused a lot on the days of the week. Art work using chalk, paint, play dough and sequins have made a spectacular nursery display on black card. The children enjoyed small group time sessions to mind map their learning.
Our mud kitchen had a makeover with the help of garden group volunteers working very hard, there was a lot of leaves and mud to scrape of the ground. We used big tools and lots of safety and we moved all the furniture around, lots of nice comments from the other boys and girls – it looks great!
The children have chopped, peeled, cored and stewed fruit and vegetables, painting with them and eating them. Following the process from ground/tree to plate and tummy! We continue to learn about light and dark, lots of focus on dark this week so this next weeks festival of light will be a welcomed change.
P3 Home Learning – December 2020
Welcome back to Nursery
What a lovely week in the Nursery. It was lovely to welcome the children back and some new staff faces. This week we said hello to Mrs Singhal and Mrs Hanna.
The children are very engaged and playing together beautifully. They have settled into their routines, especially in the dining room where they are served their hot lunch. The favourite this week was nuggets and noodles, although their ‘spooky’ Halloween lunch was very well received!
This week the children have enjoyed playing name games and memory games for circle time and had an interest in spiders and worms . A small group of children were excited to go shopping with Mrs Bingham and Miss Lawrence on Tuesday. They demonstrated a super sense of responsibility and leadership skills whilst out and about. On the way back they proudly carried their own nursery rucksacks.
On Wednesday, the children made spiders and spider webs with Mrs McNally.
On Thursday we carved pumpkins, took out their “guts” and enjoyed our very own pumpkin soup for afternoon snack with witchy shaped bread, after listening to the story Pumpkin Soup. We ended our week with a fabulous spooky party. We had a witches’ cavern with a very interesting cauldron! Halloween masks to cut out, colour and thread. Some ghoulish green smelly play dough and monster pictures and some fun Halloween games and a spooky snack! Another very busy and fun learning week.

Parent Consultations Thursday 1 and Friday 2 October 2020
This term we are unable to have our annual parent consultations as a face to face meeting in school due to COVID 19 restrictions , and Scottish Government / Council Guidance. As a result we have arranged for parent consultations to take place as a 10 minute video call, with the parent, teacher, and where appropriate the child. The following information and video link explains how to make an appointment, device compatibility and how to join the meeting.
If you have any issues or concerns with this please contact us by email at school.
Please note , if your child currently receives support for learning with Mrs McColl she will arrange to have a telephone conversation with you.
