P4/5 Art and Design 24/3/20

In Art  and Design we are learning to explore tone and proportion in observational drawing.

We have learning about inventions through the ages – look for a modern day object in your house and do a detailed pencil drawing looking carefully at shape and proportion. Use your pencil with different amounts of pressure to add tone.

Ideas – a bicycle, a kettle, a microwave, a toaster, a mobile phone, a laptop….check with an adult before drawing these!

In Art and Design I am learning to…

Use shape, pattern and colour effectively

Your  ‘dragon head’ creations were fabulous! Now take your ideas further by drawing four similar images ( fold a piece of A4 paper in half, twice ) and completing each one with different patterns and colours. You could consider ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ colours or happy/sad/angry dragons! Drawing the head and neck only will be simpler but you can draw the whole dragon if you like!

In Art  and Design we are learning to create  still life images.

We have been looking at what makes a still life picture and created our own using pencil, paint and collage.

Now set up your own still life scene on a table at home – include a few simple objects that you like and create your own observational drawing of them. You could place them on a tea towel to add interest.  It could be a bowl of fruit and a jug or something more personal like your favourite mug and a packet of biscuits!

Think about how you could add colour – pencil, felt pen, paint, chalk, collage? ( Old magazines are great for finding colours and patterns ).

Why not share your completed work on Twitter!

Tuesday 24 March – P3

Good morning P3!  I hope lots of you have joined in with the Joe Wicks workout this morning @thebodycoach.  I know some of you have been making up timetables for your learning this week. Great idea!  Don’t forget to add in some time for play, relaxing and talking through any worries that you have. If you are looking for some ideas of other things to add to your timetable then check out the links on our class page on the website.  – Miss Fraser 🙂

Tuesday 24th March

Good morning P4.

As promised, here is some intended learning for both numeracy and literacy that you can use to help you structure your day if it helps. The aim of this is to help and I’m trying hard not to overwhelm anyone. If you have made other plans that suit you and your family better then I am more than happy for you to use them!

Numeracy:

Yesterday I suggested using a textbook page to revise adding two digit numbers. Today, why not use your addition skills to find the missing number in sums, like we did in class last week.

Possible activity:

Use the dice in your pack to generate two 2 digit numbers. For example, if you roll a 4 and a 5 you make 45 and if you role a 6 and a 2 you make 62. You can also use a random number generator online instead of dice if you have access to a device.

Make a sum like this one using your 2 digit numbers:

? – 45 = 62

Now use your addition skills to add 62 and 45 to find the missing number. The missing number in this sum is 107.

If this is too tricky, begin with just 1 digit numbers. If you’d like more of a challenge, why not roll the dice 3 times to make a three digit number instead.

We did find this quite tricky in class, so take your time and don’t worry if you’re finding it challenging. Use your 100 square to help or make tens and ones using Lego if you have some!

Literacy:

This week in spelling we are learning the ‘ow’ sound in the yellow box! You will find a copy of the spelling words in your home learning pack.

Choose 7 words from the list – you guys are pretty good at working out which ones are the right level for you. If you have access to Lego, practice building the words using one colour for consonants and another for vowels. Remember to join the bricks together if two letters only make one sound. If you don’t have access to Lego, use your whiteboards to dot and dash the sounds like we do in class.

Pick a fun activity to practice your spelling words. You could try making a word search for someone to solve or why not practice your words by writing them in rainbow colours to brighten up your day a little.

Take care

Miss Prentice

P2/3 Art

Hello p2/3!

I know how much you all love art! So luckily for us Mrs Denvir has come up with some ideas I’m sharing with you.

Why don’t you have a go? You can have some relaxing music on in the background, just like in class!

We are learning to explore colour.

Fold a piece a sheet of A4 paper in half  three times. Open it up and you will have 8 sections. In each section add a different colour – you could do this with any art materials you have at home – pencils, pens, paint, pastels…or even with paper from a magazine.

Now use your imagination to give each colour a name, for example, ‘muddy brown’ or ‘cloudy grey’ – can you write these beside your colours?

Challenge – do this with just one writing pencil or one coloured pencil. Can you create eight different shades? Can you make names for them all? Midnight blue, deep sea blue, summer sky……

I can’t wait to see what you do!

P7 Art and Design 23.3.20

In Art  and Design I am learning to use the shape and pattern observed in the Scottish Parliament building to design merchandise.

Following on from our work to create designs for place mats, t-shirts and magnets, develop your ideas further to create designs for a piece of jewellery. Create several sketches then produce a more detailed drawing which includes notes to explain your design. You could design earrings, cuff links,  a bracelet, a tie pin, a necklace…..or even a matching set!

Remember to consider your colour choice!
