P4-5: Wednesday 25th March

Good morning P4-5! I hope you have all been using your home learning packs to practice some of the skills that we have been learning in class this term.  Try using the Pobble365 website to practice your writing, including improving sentences using adverbs.

Free writing is also a fantastic way to practice your writing- write about anything that takes your interest, either fiction or non-fiction!

Wednesday 25 March – P3

Good morning P3.  Miss Fraser forgot to bring home any spelling cubes so she has been doing her spelling using fruit pastilles.  Can you work out which “ee” words they could be?  I wonder what you have got at home that you could use to make spelling words?fp1

A Guide to Reading

At school, we often issue the same book for the whole week, which can seem odd. This is partly to allow time for lots of reading practice but there is also a lot of other discussion that happens in our reading groups on a daily basis.

For adults, it can sometimes be frustrating to help a child struggle over the same word on each page but, when you see all of the different elements that combine to make a fluent reader, it is, in my opinion, sheer magic!

Hopefully this guide will help you to continue to read at home, daily. You can also use the discussion ideas for audiobooks.

In Art  and Design we are learning to show ‘mood’ in our figure drawing.

This is a great opportunity for you to capture some family members on paper! Make 3 or 4  two minute sketches of someone. They could be curled up on the sofa, lying on the floor, legs crossed …..choose a position they will be in for a while! Once you have worked out the proportion and perspective of the figure, complete a more detailed drawing. You don’t need to focus on the face…think more about the shoulders, how the arms and hands are placed. What mood does the body shape suggest? Relaxed? Tired? Inspired?

Use your pencil with different amounts of pressure to add TONE to your work.

P4/5 Art and Design 24/3/20

In Art  and Design we are learning to explore tone and proportion in observational drawing.

We have learning about inventions through the ages – look for a modern day object in your house and do a detailed pencil drawing looking carefully at shape and proportion. Use your pencil with different amounts of pressure to add tone.

Ideas – a bicycle, a kettle, a microwave, a toaster, a mobile phone, a laptop….check with an adult before drawing these!

In Art and Design I am learning to…

Use shape, pattern and colour effectively

Your  ‘dragon head’ creations were fabulous! Now take your ideas further by drawing four similar images ( fold a piece of A4 paper in half, twice ) and completing each one with different patterns and colours. You could consider ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ colours or happy/sad/angry dragons! Drawing the head and neck only will be simpler but you can draw the whole dragon if you like!

In Art  and Design we are learning to create  still life images.

We have been looking at what makes a still life picture and created our own using pencil, paint and collage.

Now set up your own still life scene on a table at home – include a few simple objects that you like and create your own observational drawing of them. You could place them on a tea towel to add interest.  It could be a bowl of fruit and a jug or something more personal like your favourite mug and a packet of biscuits!

Think about how you could add colour – pencil, felt pen, paint, chalk, collage? ( Old magazines are great for finding colours and patterns ).

Why not share your completed work on Twitter!
